Non-auditioned ensemble, open to those with little to no experience with singing, currently at 13 members. Emphasis on 2-3 part singing, emphasis on sight reading, good vocal technique, intermediate repertoire.

Auditioned ensemble, currently at 16 members. Emphasis on singing 3-4 parts + choreography, advanced repertoire.

Drumline

OHS Drumline is offered to students beginning in 9th grade and is an elective that students can take up to 4 years. Drumline meets everyday for 45 minutes. These students perform in 3 concerts, 3 competitions, school rallies, and all the home football games. Some of the music remains the same with new competition pieces each year meaning if a student takes Drumline each year, there will be new challenges to expand their abilities.

Introduction to Music

A new course at OHS that is offered to students in grades 9-12 with little to no musical experience. Students meet everyday to learn fundamental musical skills such as music appreciation, notation reading, tone production, music theory, and performing. Students have flexibility in their learning environment with their choice of instrument and learning pace. Students are encouraged to continue their learning and enroll in any of the performing arts classes at OHS after this course.

Marching Band

Marching Band

Marching Band is offered to students beginning in 9th grade and is an elective that students can take up to 4 years. Marching Band meets everyday for 45 minutes. These students perform in 3 concerts, 3 competitions, school rallies, and all the home football games. Steel Band

Steel Band

Steel Band is offered to students beginning in 9th grade and is an elective that students can take up to 4 years. No prior knowledge is required to be in Steel Band. The Steel Band is a group of musicians who play music on steel pan instrumentsSteel pans are acoustic tuned percussion instruments recycled from oil drums, they originate from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. The student will perform in at least 3 concerts; one in December, one in March, and one in May.

Color Guard/Winter Guard

Color Guard and Winter Guard is a Visual and Performing arts class offered to 9th through 12th graders at OHS. This is the next step in the guard program starting in 7th-8th grade at OJHS. Students perform choreographed dances with various equipment such as flag, rifle, sabre, and shields to enhance and interpret the music of a show. In the fall semester, students support the OHS Marching Mustangs during football games and at marching competitions. In the spring semester, students focus on competing indoors with the Central Valley Guard and Percussion Circuit.

Winter Guard

Jazz Band

Jazz Band is an elective offered to students beginning in 9th grade and is an elective that students can take up to 4 years. Jazz Band is the only Band class that needs students to play piano, guitar, bass, and drum set. It is a fun, unique class meeting during 0 period at the high school. Since Jazz Band is offered during 0 period, students are able to take Jazz Band and an additional elective.

Guitar Class

Non-auditioned ensemble, open to those with little to no guitar experience. Currently at 29 enrolled, emphasis on basics/fundamentals of guitar including reading sheet music + tablature, strumming chords, scales, learning about guitar history, along with performance tests/quizzes. Currently no performance schedule.
